Ryan Cobourn’s gestural abstract paintings are based on memories and experiences of the figure, the landscape, and the garden. The allusions and references remain slightly out of reach. There is a physical, tactile play between the veiling and exposing of forms with creamy, viscous paint, which can feel agitated, tender, and melancholic all at once.
Cobourn received his MFA from Indiana University. His work is exhibited by Bryant Street Gallery, Ann Connelly Fine Art, Carrie Coleman Fine Art, and Herold Fine Art. He has been the recipient of multiple awards and grants including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and the Vermont Studio Center Artist Grant.
